Indonesian child nutrition problems are triggered by various factors, one of which is their lack of understanding of healthy nutrition. In order to introduce children to healthy nutrition, Khrisma Fitriasari, Head of Corporate and Government Affairs Mondelez Indonesia Kharisma recommends that children learn to grow vegetables.

The nutritional status of several countries in the Southeast Asian region is still struggling with the problem of malnutrition, including Indonesia. Indonesia itself faces a double burden of malnutrition and obesity which still tend to be high.

According to the 2013 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) it was noted that the prevalence of thinness in children aged 5-12 years was 11.2 percent, consisting of 4 percent very thin and 7.2 percent thin. While the prevalence of obese children aged 5-12 years reached 18.8 percent where 10.8 percent were obese and 8.8 percent were obese.

School children, said Khrisma, require a lot of energy for the period of growth and daily activities. Therefore, they need proper nutrition to help the growth period and maximize the learning process.

"Many children do not know how to have healthy nutrition for their daily lives. In the background of this background, Mondelez organizes the Joy Schools program to empower school children to take positive steps to maintain their welfare," Khrisma said at a media meeting at SDN 03 Bangka, South Jakarta On Friday (9/14/2018).

In this Joy Schools program, Khrisma said Mondelez had three efforts to improve the welfare of school children, first through good nutrition education where school children were given an understanding of the importance of nutritious breakfast every day.

Second, giving access to healthy food by inviting students to garden and planting fresh plants or vegetables on the school grounds so that students can benefit from gardening. Finally through physical activity that promotes a variety of creative games through various creations or donations of sports equipment.

"Children will plant their own vegetables which they can bring home to consume with their families. In this way the children are expected to know the importance of eating vegetables and knowing that how to plant them is very easy," he added.

One of the schools that partnered with Mondelez Indonesia was Bangka Elementary School 03. Within 2 years, the Joy Schools program had succeeded in increasing the understanding of students in Bangka 03 Jakarta Elementary School towards the importance of breakfast by 21 percent compared to the year Ialu.

"What I really feel is that children understand about nutrition and breakfast. Usually they have a ceremony or gymnastics that looks weak because they haven't had breakfast. So with this program the children are given an insight into the importance of fulfilling nutrition," continued Abdul Rofiq, Head of Bangka State Elementary School 03 on the same occasion.

Khrisma said that the chosen Bangka 03 Elementary School itself was motivated by the proximity of its location to the Mondelez Indonesia office. In addition, SDN 03 is still classified as B accreditation, so it requires the support of many parties to change the behavior of students and teachers towards a better direction.

"Joy Schools is a form of our responsibility towards the community around us. We have a responsibility to provide nutrition in schools. Our program is sustainable so that the benefits can be felt in the long term," said Khrisma.
